Zizzi’s new vegan pizza is tipped to be in high demand

There’s exciting news for vegan pizza lovers – the Italian restaurant Zizzi has announced the UK high street’s first ever jackfruit ‘pepperoni’ pizza, after going into partnership with plant-based protein company, Jack & Bry.

The pizza, titled ‘Jackfruit Italian Hot’ is topped with a new kind of pepperoni to create a delicious vegan alternative to the Italian classic, just in time for autumn comfort eating!

‘Best Vegan Pizza’

The plant-based meal, which costs £10.75, is the first vegan dish to be permanently added to the main menu at Zizzi and has already been voted as the ‘Best Vegan Pizza’ at the PETA Vegan Food Awards 2019.

The Jackfruit Italian Hot pizza will be topped with four delicious ingredients, including spicy harissa, roquito chili, vegan Mozzarisella, and jackfruit pepperoni.

Over 12 months of development, Jack & Bry worked hard to create the palm oil-free meat alternative, which is high in fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and also features 70 per cent less fat than traditional meat pepperoni.

Spike In Vegan Orders

Zizzi reports that in the last year, vegan dishes have accounted for 2.5 per cent of all meals ordered at their restaurants.

The new data has also found that Brighton, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Norwich are the most popular restaurants for customers to order a vegan meal, with sales rising particularly in May.

The spike followed the release of Our Planet on Netflix, which started national conversation around the negative impact of climate change.

The Jackfruit Italian Hot is available as a Rustica, Classic or Skinny pizza and is just one of the delicious new dishes from the autumn menu that is available nationwide from 15th October.

‘Guilt-Free Pizza’

Bryony Tinn-Disbury, co-Founder of Jack & Bry says: We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with Zizzi on their latest vegan dish. There is a huge opportunity right now for brands and restaurants to listen to their audiences by expanding their plant-based offerings.

“It’s great that Zizzi are committed to its audience and are helping to create delicious, guilt-free plant-based alternatives.”

Kathryn Wilson, Zizzi director of food development, adds: “We’re always looking for new ways to innovate our dishes at Zizzi and ensure that there is something for everyone.

“Our customers are more conscious than ever in what they’re eating and how it is sourced. In the last year, we’ve seen vegan dishes become even more popular, so it’s important to us that we adapt some of our classic dishes so that vegans can also enjoy these perennial favourites.

“We can’t wait for them to try our first ever jackfruit pepperoni pizza and hear what they think!”
