The National Trust has Launched its First Vegan Cream Tea

Stuck for something to do this weekend? Then why not visit your nearest National Trust location.

Launched in the middle of World Vegan Month, the National Trust has launched a new cream tea, that features a plain scone and oat milk vegan cream.

In addition to this, soya milk is now being widely offered, so hot drinks can now be made dairy-free.

Research shows that more than three-quarters of a million visits to National Trust places were by vegans and the cream tea reflects the diversity of these tourists.

Development chef and creator of the new plant-based addition, Rebecca Janaway, commented: “We are welcoming more people than ever before to the places we care for who have a variety of tastes and dietary needs, and our menu needs to reflect that. We know from talking with visitors who are vegan that they are looking for more choice and that they struggle to find classic British comfort food, and what could be more classic than the cream tea.”

The vegan cream team sits alongside a range of hot meals and light snacks that are also suitable for vegans, with autumnal dishes that showcase the food grown in National Trust gardens, much of which is planted specifically to be used in cafés.

The food options include coronation cauliflower, a couscous salad, mixed bean chilli, mushroom and thyme roll, red lentil cottage pie, red Thai spiced squash soup and a vegetable tagine.
