The world of dating can be tough at the best of times, but it can be even more so if you have a strong belief system – like ethical veganism.

The rise in veganism, especially amongst millennials, has highlighted polarising preferences when it comes to finding love online.

Meat-eaters are ‘turned off’ by users describing themselves as ‘vegan’ and vegans are more inclined to pass on a carnivore.

The rise of this issue has given birth to apps like Grazer, the millennial vegan dating app.

Lewis Foster, Grazer founder says: “If veganism is important for you, how do you find someone you like that only makes around two per cent of the population? It’s really difficult.”

‘Polarising Preferences’

Recent research found that 41 per cent of Brits would be less interested in a potential partner if they list themselves as ‘vegan’ on their online dating profile. Conversely, 60 per cent of vegans dream of finding a vegan partner.

The playful millennial dating app, Grazer, was founded by entrepreneur Lewis Foster, addressing the fact that 56 per cent of vegans would also be put off by a meat-eater.

Foster launched the vegan dating app, Grazer 2.0, in January 2020 after seed investment from the director of Netflix’s Cowspiracy and What The Health, Kip Anderson.

Entrepreneur and founder of Grazer Lewis Foster shares: “Grazer is for plant lovers only, so you never have to swipe a carnivore again!”

‘More than just food to digest’

This is a matter that’s hard to overlook, when a staggering 70 per cent of singles choose to go to dinner on a first date – so what people eat is seemingly very important.

This then leaves further concern in the conflicts of interest, when five per cent of vegans stated that they’ve experienced suffering due to their spouses’ meat consumption.

Interestingly, 27 per cent of vegans and vegetarians said that they had ended a relationship, based on the food habits of the person they were dating not falling in line with their own.

‘Connecting People’

Vegan influencer and dating app investor, Kip Anderson, speaks excitedly of its solution: “It’s a way to connect us all together and to meet new awesome people who share common ideals, goals and visions.”

“I think the growth potential of this is phenomenal, because as this movement grows Grazer is going to grow really big as well, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
